Kusha grass is a sacred plant, mentioned in Rig Veda. Scientifically known as Desmostachya bipinnata, it is widely used in all sacred activities as well as making of mat for meditation purposes. Gautam Buddha also used a meditation seat made up of this grass during his time of enlightment. It is also known with different names such as Durva grass, Halfa grass in different parts of India and in the world.
